Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

 WHY IS EVERYONE WEARING MASKS?

Procedure & surgical masks have been shown to be effective in slowing the spread of the coronavirus by providing a barrier of protection to the wearer, both from contracting the virus through airborne particles and by slowing the spread of the virus, particularly in individuals who are asymptomatic.

WHAT IS AN ASTM CERTIFIED MASK?

ASTM is the American Society for Testing and Materials. They test the masks to determine the level of filtration effectiveness. After rigorous testing, masks are assigned one of the three ratings.

  1. Level 1 - (Low barrier protection) Minimum protection, general use not for medical purposes. Level 1 masks are unregulated and unable to filter out particles.
  2. Level 2 - (Moderate barrier protection) Designed for low to moderate levels of aerosols, spray and/or fluids. Able to filter out particles and must be regulated for medical use.
  3. Level 3 - (Maximum barrier protection) Designed for high risk and procedures with moderate to heavy amounts of blood, fluid, spray and/or aerosol exposure. Must be FDA-listed for approved medical use.
